Department Overview

Mitchell County Transportation strives to provide eaiser mobility choices and to improve the economic well-being and quality of life for the community. The department strives to excel in providing safe, reliable, affordable, courteous public transit serives that address the needs of Mitchell County residents.

Upcoming Trips, Shuttles, & Meetings

  • July 20 – Hamricks in Asheville, Cost of shuttle will be $3.00
  • July 24 - Irish Concert in the Park at Riverside Park in Spruce Pine - 6:00 p.m.
  • July 25- Toe River Chamber Concert at Riverside Park in Spruce Pine - 4:00 p.m.
  • July29-August 1 - Mineral and Gem Festival in Spruce Pine
  • July 31 - Motorcycle Run in Spruce Pine - 7:00p.m.
  • July 31 - Crossnore School - 6:00p.m. This shuttle will be transporting to a play given by the children of Crossnore School. This shuttle will cost $2.00.
  • August 17 - Transportation Advisory Board meets at 10:00 a.m.
  • November 16 - Transportation Advisory Board meets at 10:00 a.m.

Scheduled Meetings

  • MCTA Staff Meetings & Training are every third Tuesday of the month
  • The Transportation Advisory Board meets quarterly

Functions

The Mitchell County Transportation Authority (MCTA) is a community transportation program dedicated to meet the transportation needs of Mitchell County residents. The community transit system can help residents get to work, go shopping, get to the pharmacy, in county as well as out-of-county medical appointments or whatever the need may be. MCTA also provides transportation services by contract to a number of human service agencies such as the Senior Center, day care centers, sheltered workshop, social services, and pre-school centers.

Requesting Transportation

Obtaining a ride on community transit is quick and easy. Contact the Transportation Office with the day/time and location of a trip. It's a good idea to call in advance to schedule the trip. A Transportation representative will determine eigibility for services and help schedule the trip.

Mitchell County Transportation services are fully-accessible for people with disabilities.
